There are many ways that Hanuman is worshiped. Hindu temples are mostly not dedicated to Hanuman because he isn't considered an actual "god" but more of a "godlike deity", however temples dedicated to Rama often involve some worship to Hanuman because of their connections. When he is depicted in temples, Hanuman is shown as a red faced monkey who stands like a man.
Shrines around India are dedicated to Hanuman as much as they would be any other god, generally being throned by monkeys (who can't be mistreated there). Diwaii, the Festival of Lights, is one of the festivals in honor of Hanuman. It is representing the end of the Ramayana where Hanuman guides Rama and Sita home using lamps. During this festival, people symbolically do the same by leaving lit lamps outside of their houses. |
